The Central Siberian Botanical Garden of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is not just a green corner within the city, but one of the largest botanical scientific complexes in Russia. It is located in the Akademgorodok of Novosibirsk and occupies a vast territory where nature and science coexist harmoniously. The garden traces its origins back to the 1940s — with a small collection of trees and ornamental plants. By 1964, full-scale work had already begun on a specially allocated site, which over the years turned the botanical garden into a large-scale scientific and excursion center.
Infrastructure and scientific base
The Botanical Garden was created not only as a place for walks and recreation, but also as a large research site. Laboratory buildings, administrative buildings, storage facilities, greenhouse complexes and orangeries were built here, which made it possible to conduct fundamental botanical research. The garden regularly hosts practical training and internships for students, and also trains specialists for academic institutes in Siberia.

Living plant collection
A unique floral collection has been collected here, numbering thousands of species from all over the world. More than 3,000 tropical and subtropical plants, including rare and endangered species, grow in the greenhouses alone. In the forest park part and the arboretum, there are about 400 species of trees and shrubs. The “Garden of Continuous Flowering”, famous among Novosibirsk residents, amazes with its palette changing with the seasons – more than 500 species of plants are selected so that the area pleases the eye all year round.
The staff pays special attention to the preservation of flora that is under threat of extinction. More than 100 protected species are cultivated in specially designated areas of the garden.

Tropical oasis in winter
In winter, the opportunity to “escape” from frosty Siberia to an oasis of evergreen jungle is especially appreciated. As soon as you enter the greenhouse pavilion, you are greeted by moist, warm air, saturated with the aromas of exotic flowers and foliage. Magnificent compositions, warm colors and a tropical atmosphere make a strong impression.
One of the main attractions was a citrus graft called the “Friendship Tree” – tangerines, oranges, lemons, fortunellas and pomelo grow on one crown. This botanical experiment has become a symbol of cooperation between science and nature.
Miniature Bonsai Garden
The collection of plants made in the Japanese bonsai technique is the real pride of the garden. Graceful trees in ceramic vases, molded by time and care of specialists, enchant with their form and details. This area evokes a special state of peace and aesthetic admiration in visitors.

Park area and seasonal exhibitions
With the arrival of spring, the open part of the botanical garden comes to life. Dozens of hectares are covered with expositions: “Rock Garden”, “Waltz of Flowers”, collections of ornamental plants, arboretum. One of the pearls is the rose garden, donated by the French company Yves Rocher. Of particular interest is the museum of rare plants, accessible only to specialists. Benches for rest are installed throughout the garden, bicycle paths are equipped, and bicycles are available for rent. Paid parking for cars is also available.

Botanical Museum and Flower Shop
The Botanical Museum of Siberia operates in the main building. Three exhibition halls immerse you in the history of the development of botany in Siberia. Here you can learn how the scientific school of the region was formed and what discoveries were made by Novosibirsk scientists. There is also a plant store in the building, where you can buy flowers and ornamental plants for your home or garden at reasonable prices.
❗ Please note: there is a paid photography service on the territory of the garden. There are also no cafes or food outlets here, so it is recommended to take water and a small snack with you.
