Zaeltsovsky Park is the green pearl of Novosibirsk

Zaeltsovsky Park is one of the most picturesque and beloved recreation areas in Novosibirsk. It is rightly called the city’s “green pearl.” Situated within a pine forest covering over 35 hectares, many of the trees are older than Novosibirsk itself. The fresh forest air, wide avenues, and modern infrastructure make the park an ideal place for walks, sports, and family leisure.

History of the park

The site of the park was originally a natural pine forest. In 1930, authorities decided to transform it into a landscaped recreational area. By 1932, paths, a children’s playground, and the first amusement rides had appeared, and the coastal areas were landscaped for public recreation.

Over its nearly century-long history, the park has been renovated numerous times. During the Soviet era, it was a hub of sporting activity, housing skating rinks, ski trails, and performing arts. In the 2000s, a children’s railway was built, and in 2021–2022, a major renovation was completed. The central paths were renovated, a bike network stretching over 4 km was created, and new playgrounds and eco-trails were installed.

Today, Zaeltsovsky Park is not only a historical site but also a modern center for city events: Maslenitsa, Victory Day, barbecue festivals, and gastronomic celebrations are held here. The “Prince’s Court” medieval reenactment festival has become an annual event.

Architecture and recreation areas

The park’s territory is divided into several zones for the convenience of visitors:

  • Pedestrian alleys with updated paving, navigation and lighting;
  • Bicycle paths over 4 km long with rental points for bicycles, roller skates, scooters and velomobiles;
  • Ecological trails with information boards about local flora and fauna;
  • Children’s playgrounds with swings, sandboxes, etc.

The park features gazebos and grill houses for groups, a stage for concerts and public events, and sports areas for group training.

Entertainment and active recreation

Zaeltsovsky Park offers a variety of entertainment for all ages:

  • Rope park – routes of varying difficulty at heights from 2 to 10 meters.
  • The paintball club is a fully equipped 1.5 hectare site with equipment rental and instructors.
  • A skate park for rollerbladers, skateboarders, and stunt scooter enthusiasts.
  • The Children’s Railway is a unique attraction for both children and adults. The trains connect the park with the Novosibirsk Zoo.
  • Gazebo rentals – more than 20 options for groups of 10 to 30 people.

In winter, the park transforms into a ski resort, with trails for classic and skating skiing, and ski rentals available. In summer, cycling and outdoor picnics are popular.
